Nope
This portrait was the final result of a unit in my photography class to shoot a subject with strobe lights and find a creative way to light a portrait. I have always been a big fan of portraits that use a punch of bright vivid color, so I decided to use colored gels on strobes and made this picture. It was my first time and the result turned out quite well to where my professor said that it reminded him of the Obama-era Hope posters. I jokingly named the piece Nope to serve as a comedic answer to that similarity
Adorable
This was one of my favorite pictures I have ever taken! A totally natural capture of an innocent moment of my cat that emulates a dramatic black-and-white portrait of a person that one would see in a film. It was certainly a big challenge to get the exact lighting setup and pose for the cat but after much patience and preparing for the right moment, I was able to get it exactly how I wanted at the right time.
Bad Bunny in Color
This was a final project for my digital painting class that also became a birthday present for my best friend. The portrait is based of an image, but is a relit-reinterpration using a mix of Seurat's pointillist style and Monet's brush work. The result is a work that resembles street art but also has a touch of realism due to the turned form and the use of light and shadow.
"Quakers"
This Master Copy of Cheri Christenson's "Quakers" was my first fully finished artwork in Digital painting. It was a fun exploration of all the different types of brushes one can use but also give much insight into the way she had used brushwork to bring the ducks to form with such little brush strokes. This work was foundational for my introduction to impressionist painting
Rugged
This was my very first photoshoot as a photographer and it was one where I had learned a lot about how to get prepared for a photoshoot and how to find opportunities for shots that one can take in a single setting. I had a lot of challenges especially with low light conditions but I got some good pictures out of the experience
Vermeer's Dream
This work is a digital painting of Iris Scott's "Shaking Dog" in the style of Johannes Vermeer. The project involved a lot of heavy research into the colors and methods Vermeer used for his paintings and I tried my best to emulate the Dutch master's use of light and shadow and the exact color palate he used. The one big challenge I had was with the water due to him having little to no paintings with water to this extent, so I had to improvise with my own method. The overall result is one that I am extremely proud of and the first time I had branched out from direct master copies
Fiesta M&Ms
This was my first paid client project with graphic design where I had to design a M&M concept bag that had a San Antonio fiesta themed colors and characters. This project took around 5-7 days to make and involved a lot of conversation with the client, getting the right color schemes, many concept sketches, and problem solving with adding costumes to the characters in a natural way. The Client was extremely satisfied with end result and I think that the success of it was due to the research and work it took to emulate a design that the Mars corporation would do if they got contracted
Moonrise
This project was a canvas painting that uses a technique called "Aluminum painting" which involves dipping the paint on the canvas with crumpled aluminum and using it as as sponge to add texture to the painting. I used this effect to add the gradient in the sky and the ripples in the water.
Texas
This piece was a still life pencil drawing that was drawn with a couple of objects assembled together and lit with a single light. The final result was one that captures the lighting and form very close to the reference and made for a hilarious combination of objects that made me think of the very place I live in.
Graduation
This was a final photography project that was also my first client work in the field. I had been contracted to take graduation pictures across the A&M campus for a final goodbye to the campus. Doing the shoot was certainly bittersweet, but the pictures turned out really well and reflected my growth as a photographer and cinematographer, especially in the compositions that I was able to make.
